First of all, this post is not about an inter-cultural marriage. I have been married for nearly a year now so not nearly long enough to be giving verdicts on how stressful/successful these type of marriages can be. It is about my upcoming wedding ceremony-the proper one, the whole extravaganza... Well, Dragon Boat race came and went and I didn't even get to see it!I was really looking forward to it but when the day actually came-I totally forgot about it. That was a day after my last day at work (before a summer break) and all I wanted to do was to relax. In fact, I didn't realize that I'd missed Dragon Boat race until about 4 days later!Shame but what can you do? I missed it not because I was relaxing so much that my mind wasn't functioning properly,oh no, it was because my mind was and still is very preoccupied with the wedding and, mainly, Honeymoon preparations... Another day off work is coming! This time it is the annual Dragon Boat Festival(June 20th)-a traditional celebration, the main feature of which is the boat race. Some places, like Hong Kong, organize huge international events to celebrate that day, in others it is done on a somewhat smaller scale. Most places though will celebrate in some way. Here in Guangzhou we have one major race on the Pearl River and multiple smaller ones. Before coming to China I worried about going to the doctor's. The obvious reason being the lack of language. If not for my employer, I would have had to rely on my OT to translate for me but how would he get time off work to accompany in the first place? No clue as it seems pretty difficult bordering on impossible over here. Fortunately, as any legally employed foreigner in China, I have medical insurance. I haven't updated for a while as not much has been happening to be honest.
