After a long but surprisingly comfortable (well done Air China! It wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated)journey from London to central China(it only took 2 flights and a 4 hour-long drive!)we arrived safely in my OH's hometown or rather home-city as it's a bit weird to call a city of 4.4mln inhabitants a town, isn't it?OH claims it's small..yeah..perhaps if you compare it to mega-cities like Shanghai or Beijing it isn't that big but if you come from a tiny tiny place like mine(population: 13.000 and decreasing)you hold a different perspective..We arrived at a perfect time, too. Just in time for the Spring Festival. Dragon Dances, fireworks, street celebrations, shows...yeah..Out of all that we only had some fireworks, extremely loud, smelly and messy fireworks at that, which one night created such unbelievably thick fog we though Armageddon has come; fireworks which sound like a building being demolished right next to your ear!I was a bit disappointed with how low-key the celebrations were. Perhaps it depends on the location?Among my OH's lovely family, hardly anyone lifted from the Majiang tables(more about that in future posts)or moved their eyes away from the , unbearably boring, tv shows when midnight stoke. No hugs, no toasts, NOTHING. We did go out for a lot of fancy dinners though so that's alright:)The Chinese are very generous and hospitable, they will make you eat more even when you feel like you're gonna burst. We had about 30 dishes to choose from every night, including such 'delicacies' as turtle soup or pigs ears!I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to new food so I chickened out a few times but I tried my best!Another great thing was that I had a British companion in the shape of Jack, our friend who studies here.It was so nice to chat to someone(else than my OH)and share opinions. All in all, I'm happy we got here in time to meet all the family members and catch up:)Check out my gallery to see more photos!
